NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital (formerly known as Lawrence Hospital Center) is a general hospital located in Bronxville, New York that provides inpatient and outpatient care primarily to residents of southern Westchester County. It was founded in 1909 as Lawrence Hospital by prominent businessman William Van Duzer Lawrence, whose name the hospital bears, following the near-death of his son, Dudley, while en route to a hospital in New York City. The hospital annually treats 36,000 patients in its emergency department and delivers around 2,000 babies. Today, it is affiliated with Columbia University College of Physicians & Sur geons and has 400 physicians, 88% of whom are board certified, and a total of 1,100 employees. It is recognized for excellence in orthopedics, obstetrics, oncology, and cardiology.
In 2005, Lawrence Hospital Center became an affiliate member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and in 2014 entered into a new partnership which resulted in the hospital being renamed NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital. Groundbreaking of a new two-story, 40,000 sq. ft. cancer and surgery center occurred on June 18, 2013 and is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2016.
Accreditations and awards
NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital is licensed and certified for 288 beds by the New York State Department of Health. It is accredited by The Joint Commission for hospital and home care programs and is certified in joint replacement of the hip and knee. The hospital is also recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The cancer program was given a Three-Year Approval with Commendation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Its hospital laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. It is also a recognized center of excellence in breast imaging.
In 2006, Lawrence Hospital was designated a New York State Stroke Center. The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association presented Lawrence Hospital with a Silver Get With the Guidelines - Heart Failure quality award in 2013 and it operates an echocardiographic laboratory accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiographic Laboratories. In 2015, the hospital was recognized by the American College of Surgeons Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program as a center of excellence.
